Hi guys! Welcome to Episode 313 of the Wildly Successful Lifestyle podcast! Thank you guys for being here. Thank you for listening and thank you for sharing and if you haven’t already go over and give me a 5 star rating on Apple or Spotify. OK…
What would you do if every single thing you did in your life mattered? How would you act? What would you do differently? What would you NOT do?
Everything I do matters and it matters a lot TO ME. What this means is that my time matters. The amount of time I a lot to different activities matters. The amount of time I spend with my friends and family, the amount of time I allow for exercise, for meditation, for creating content for my podcast. The amount of time I allow myself to be distracted by other peoples content. I have become pretty strategic about that especially. Because some of it can really move you forward. But in order for it to move you forward you have to not only consume, you have to put it to action. I’ll give you an example for me where I read something, put it to good use and something cool came from it. I read where walking without music gives your brain time to come up with it’s own ideas and I thought that is so true, some of my best ideas have come from just allowing myself to think instead of listen. So I decided to put the idea to intentional use.
Now let me just say real quick…sometimes I NEED the music to run and on those days I jam to whatever my mood needs but I have been really working lately on just using my brain energy as much as music to fuel my runs. And it does allow you to create your own things. I have a long way to go but I came up with a poem the first day I did it intentionally. I have talked about struggling with phone addiction, to which I have made huge strides. I often times don’t even know where my phone is, it’s been freeing and Im present when Im with someone else, Im not wishing I could be on my phone instead. But as I was walking I came up with this poem.
We become the least interesting person in the room
When we’re constantly scrolling on our phone.
Our heads filled with other peoples ideas.
None of them being our own.
Now, I don’t think Im all of a sudden going to be Shakespeare but I am allowing my mind to do what it’s designed to do. To Think and Create. While we are at it, I also came up with a Limerick. Do you know what a limerick is? I learned what it is from a sleep story, it’s a 5 sentence rhyming poem that can be nonsensical and even a little snarky. So here’s the limerick I came up with:
There once was a girl named Heidi
She scrolled on her phone day and nighty
She said it enlightened her
But instead it short sighted her
And she ended up silly and flighty
I hope that entertains you half as much as it did me. But it has helped me because the last thing I want to do is be silly and flighty or worst yet, the least interesting person in the room. So to me, seriously limiting the amount of time I scroll is important. That matters A LOT to me. And those little poems have helped because I remember them if I am tempted to aimlessly scroll when I could be being present with someone or doing something that moves me forward, actually experiencing something cool in life or creating instead of watching other people live and create.
My point of this episode is not to harp on phone addiction. That just happens to be something I have overcome and I feel like it has made my life exponentially better and I also know it would be super easy to fall back into that old habit so I use little triggers to remind me because I know what I allow into my head matters.
You see though, that’s My point of telling you all this is to say “what we do matters”. We think scrolling aimlessly for hours doesn’t matter when it does. What else could we be doing with that time that’s moving us forward? What ideas are you keeping locked in your brain by blocking them with constant consuming of social media? We think that the thoughts in our heads don’t matter because no-one else can hear them. Every single thought you have matters. You know why? Because your thoughts are what cause you to take action and your life is created by the action you take. We think that skipping making our bed a couple days doesn’t matter but it DOES, It’s very easy to fall out of good habits and into bad ones. We think that what we eat doesn’t matter in the long run, but What we eat matters A LOT, it matters to our energy our focus and our overall well being. Think about how much more energy you have when you’re eating healthy or not weighted down by heavy food. And the last one. The amount of time we spend with our family or our friends, that matters. All the things we do day to day, they matter.
Why? Because we are a product of every little decision we make. Allison my yoga instructor the other day quoted James Clear’s book Atomic Habits “Every decision you make is a vote for the person you will become.”
Who do you want to become?
My challenge to you today is to pick one day where you intentionally notice every little decision you make. How many times you scroll, the food you give your body, the thoughts you have, notice every little decision you make….is it moving you closer to the person you want to become or is it moving you further away. Who knows, The mystery of why you are where you are, may be solved. I love you guys! I’ll talk to you in a few days.
