LISTEN TO: How to quickly make your bedroom a respite

Hi guys!  Welcome to Episode 208 of the Wildly successful lifestyle podcast!

Since we are together twice a week and I am an interior designer by trade, I have really been feeling a home episode coming up and before you turn it off because that isn’t your thing…give me 2 minutes.

I read a quote by a Feng-Shui specialist the other day that said, “show me your bedroom and I’ll see your self worth.”  I thought that was a bit aggressive but then I thought you know what she’s right.

We run and run and run taking care of this and that, taking care of things for other people and sometimes we end up last on that list.  Your bedroom is one place you should have in your home that is your respite and if that isn’t a space that you look forward to going to, you’re really doing yourself a disservice.

I have a 3 minute video on my website on how to make sure the bedroom is a respite and who knows you may just put a little spice back into things.  But for now 5 quick things you can do to make that a space you can’t wait to get home to.  These 5 things don’t have to cost a thing:

  1. Declutter.  Take everything out that isn’t fit for a bedroom.  (Family pics are a big one here if you’re in a relationship they can kill the mood without you even realizing it). Get rid of any piles of clothes, books, magazines that you’ve been overlooking.  This doesn’t have to take long….but is a really big one that’s why it’s first
  2. Open your drapes and shades in the morning, even if it’s dark that way when you come home and it’s light outside, the space feels fresh and open.
  3. Lighting really really matters.  If you can have a lamp or soft light on each side of the bed, especially if there’s two of you.  Over head lighting can be harsh and aggressive and always make sure they are on a dimmer so you can set the ambiance. Maybe you could borrow a couple lamps from another room so you don’t have to buy new ones, worst case you can buy a dimming cord from Lowes that will dim your lamps with the touch of a button.
  4. If at all possible, don’t share your main bedroom with an office or workout equipment.  It is simply a reminder that there are things you could or need to be doing so sleep can be fitful.
  5. Make your bed every single day. Without fail.  Even if you’re in a hurry. You can google the 10,000 reasons this makes the list.

My challenge to you today is this weekend…look at your bedroom with a fresh pair of eyes.  Are you proud of yourself?  Are you giving yourself a respite from the wild west we are living in?  If yes, awesome, if not, take a couple hours this weekend and make these easy changes…you won’t regret it and you Do deserve it.

I love you guys!  I’ll talk to you in a few days!
