LISTEN TO: “B” Work is Better Than Not Showing Up!

Hi guys! Welcome to Episode 661 of The wildly successful lifestyle podcast!

Ive been doing the little practice I talked about in Episode 660 of checking in with my inner guidance system. During my meditation, I asked what it wanted me to know today and it came up with the thing I really needed to hear, especially this week…. calm down, chill out, allow yourself to get into flow and to remember the advice of one of my coaches from the past….B work is better than not showing up at all.

Yep. That is exactly what I needed to hear today. You see I am traveling in a week or so and we will be out of country for two weeks. Which means. I have to have all my episodes published, all my projects buttoned up and tucked in until I get back. And it all seems to be converging at once and I feel like I’m running out of time.

My inner guidance has actually subtly been telling me to settle down for days and I didn’t really HEAR it until I quoted my mind enough to let it through this morning.

I know I will leave everything in a good place. I know I will have all my episodes batched and published. I know this. But I’ve been fretting about it for weeks now.

I realized I was going over in my head all the things and thinking everything had to be perfect or I wouldn’t be able to relax and what I realized is showing up when you say you will is sometimes the work.
We get ourselves so bogged down in the details and perfection that we keep ourselves from ever getting to the finish line.

I had a classmate in college and it was our senior year, senior project and she was stressing out about finishing and I said show me what you’re working on and when she showed me, she has been working for three days on this one intricately designed chair and the whole project was due in less than a week. It was a whole house project and she was stuck on the intricacies of one specific chair, if that kept up she wouldn’t graduate. I told her get the whole thing done so that you get your complete grade and then once you’ve passed go back and continue the chair work if you want. But you have to finish this project to graduate. And you can’t spend that amount of time on each piece, at that rate you’ll take another 4 years to finish. It was fascinating to me because that amount of detail is impressive but if she doesn’t graduate, she won’t get hired at a design firm and none of that much needed detail work will be able to be put to use. She was able to finish and I have no doubt she’s doing great detail work for a design firm to this day but requiring perfection was not going to get her across the finish line. Allowing for B work was.

And you know what? That conversation with my classmate has stayed with me all these years because I see versions of it playing out in my own life all the time. Especially right now, with this trip coming up and everything feeling like it needs to be perfectly wrapped up before we go.
I’ve been carrying around this low-level anxiety for weeks, thinking that if I don’t get every single episode perfectly polished and every project tied up with a beautiful bow, I won’t be able to truly relax and enjoy our time away. But this morning, when I finally got quiet enough to listen, my inner guidance reminded me: B work is better than not showing up at all.

It’s such a simple truth, but one we so easily forget. We get lost in the details, chasing that elusive perfection, and in the process we hold ourselves back from finishing, from progressing, from actually living the life we say we want.
Perfection, I’ve come to realize, isn’t the goal. Progress is. Showing up consistently—even when it’s messy or incomplete—builds something real and meaningful over time. It keeps the momentum going. It honors the commitment we’ve made to ourselves and to whatever it is we’re creating.

I love how this lesson shows up not just in big creative projects, but in so many quiet corners of life. The health habit you keep returning to even on the days it doesn’t feel inspiring. The relationship you nurture with whatever presence you can offer right now. The dream you keep inching forward even when the vision in your head is so much more beautiful than what you can manage today. Sometimes the bravest and most powerful thing we can do is simply show up with what we’ve got and call it enough.
So as I sit here this morning, with that reminder fresh in my heart, I’m choosing to calm down, settle in, and let myself get into flow. I’m going to batch these episodes with heart and real intention—even if they’re not my absolute best work ever. I’m going to handle the projects that are ready today and trust that the rest will wait for me when I get back, or that what I’ve already done will be more than enough. Because I know, deep down, that I will leave everything in a good place. I always do when I remember to listen.
The truth is, when we wait for perfect conditions or perfect execution, we often end up waiting forever. But when we show up anyway—B work and all—doors open. Ideas flow. Life meets us exactly where we are and gives us more than we could have forced on our own.
So here’s my challenge for you today…

What if you gave yourself full permission to do the B work? Just in one place where you’ve been holding back, waiting for it to feel perfect. What if you showed up imperfectly but fully present? What if you let that be enough—and watched how much more space opens up for joy, for flow, for the real magic that only comes when we stop trying to control every single detail?

I have a feeling you’ll be surprised by how freeing it feels.

I know I will be practicing this right alongside you in the days ahead. And when I look back after our trip, I suspect I’ll see that those B moments didn’t diminish a single thing—they actually made room for everything that matters most.

Share this with 3 people who may be waiting for perfect in one area or another.

I love you guys! I’ll talk to you in a few days!
