LISTEN TO: Is AI Coming For Your Job? (Why Not To Fear!)

Hi guys, welcome to episode 626 of the Wildly Successful Lifestyle Podcast. I’m Heidi, and oh my goodness, I am so happy that you’re here with me today. Seriously, thank you from the bottom of my heart for always showing up, for sharing these episodes with your friends and family, for hitting that subscribe button, and especially for leaving those five-star reviews if these conversations are sparking something positive in your life. You know, if it’s helping you, it just might help someone else too, so thank you in advance for spreading that love. It means the world to me and keeps this podcast growing.

OK, so A few weeks ago, I got this text from one of my longtime clients—she’s absolutely amazing, by the way. We’ve been working together for years now, and like with so many of my clients, we’ve gone beyond just the professional stuff and become genuine friends. You know how that happens when you’re in someone’s home, helping them create spaces that reflect who they are? It’s magic. Anyway, she shoots me this text with a bunch of pictures attached, and she’s all excited, saying something like, “AI is going to take everyone’s jobs, including yours and mine! Look what it did for my living room!” I open it up, and there are these AI-generated images of her living room, completely reimagined with furniture placements, color schemes, the whole nine yards. It looked pretty spot-on at first glance—like, the AI had scanned her space or something and plopped in sofas, tables, and decor that kind of matched her vibe.

Now, I have to admit, my initial reaction was a mix of curiosity and excitement. I’m not one to shy away from new tech; in fact, I’m kind of obsessed with how it’s evolving. I’ve been playing around with AI tools myself for brainstorming ideas or even quick mood boards when I’m on the go. But as I zoomed in on those pictures, I could already spot a few things that felt off. The proportions weren’t quite right in one spot, the lighting suggestions seemed a bit generic, and overall, it had that polished-but-impersonal feel that AI often delivers. Still, I texted her back right away: “That’s so cool! I love how it’s giving you a starting point. Can’t wait to see how it turns out in real life.” Because, let’s be real, I knew deep down that this was just the beginning—she’d need that human touch to make it truly hers.

Fast forward a couple of weeks, and sure enough, I get another text from her: “Hey Heidi, can you come over for a few hours? Things just don’t feel cohesive and cozy and I know you can help” I cleared my schedule and headed over, and we spent the entire afternoon diving deep into her space. It was one of those perfect client sessions where everything just flows. We started in the living room, going over rug sizes and art location, pillows and lamps and making everything feel like we want it to feel.  We moved things around, experimenting with layouts until it clicked. Then we moved on to art placement in several different spaces;  we hung a few pieces temporarily to see how they caught the light. And really just bringing life to what originally fell flat—something personal that no algorithm could dream up.

So much of what AI suggested didn’t account for the cozy, inviting atmosphere she craves after a long day. We brainstormed warmer lighting options with soft glows, maybe some vintage-inspired pieces that add character. We gathered wallpaper advice for her half bath, that was going to make that small space feel like a little retreat. We even talked bedding for the guest room; she wanted something luxurious but not stuffy, so we discussed thread counts, fabrics, and colors that would make guests feel pampered. By the end of it, her whole home was starting to breathe—it went from a functional space to one that whispered “welcome home” every time you walked in.

The reason I’m sharing this story with you today is because it’s got me thinking a lot about the future, especially with all the buzz around AI and robots. I listen to podcasts just like you do—I devour them on my drives between client meetings—and I hear all the time about how artificial intelligence is coming for our jobs, how it’s going to revolutionize everything from design to healthcare to everyday chores. And you know what? It’s not going away. In fact, it’s only going to get bigger, smarter, and more integrated into our lives. I’m actually really excited about it. Grok and I are great friends! Haha, no seriously, I’ve had some fun chats with AI that have sparked creative ideas I might not have thought of on my own. But here’s the thing: while AI is incredible at crunching data, generating options, and even predicting trends, it’s never going to replace the heart and soul of what makes us human.

Think about it. In my world of interior design, AI can spit out a floor plan or color palette in seconds, but it can’t walk into your home, feel the energy of the room, and say, “This sofa needs to be pushed back six inches because it’s crowding the flow.” It can’t sense that the rug is too small and making the space feel disjointed, or that the walls are begging for a deeper, moodier color to add warmth. It doesn’t know your stories—the one about the heirloom vase from your grandma that needs the perfect spotlight, or how you love curling up with a book in natural light. Those nuances? That’s human work. That’s the stuff that lights me up every single day, and it’s why I love what I do.

And this isn’t just about design; it applies to so many areas of life. Imagine recovering from surgery—sure, AI might monitor your vitals or suggest recovery plans, but there’s no robot that’s going to hold your hand, look you in the eye, and say, “You’ve got this; I’m here with you.” Or think about boarding a plane: We might get to a point where AI pilots are a thing, but right now, and for a long time to come, we crave that human reassurance from the crew, the warm welcome that makes us feel safe and seen. In teaching, AI can grade papers or tutor facts, but it can’t inspire a kid with passion or notice when they’re struggling emotionally. In therapy, algorithms might analyze patterns, but they can’t offer that empathetic connection that heals. Even in something as simple as customer service, a chatbot is efficient, but a real person can turn a frustrating experience into a loyal relationship with just a kind word and some genuine problem-solving.

I truly believe that AI is going to force us all to level up—to focus on the parts of our jobs and lives that are uniquely human. I’ve started incorporating AI as a tool, not a threat—like using it for quick research on sustainable materials or trend forecasts—so I can spend more time on the human side.

For me, I am Leaning into the human aspect of whatever I do.  And you can do the same.  Whether you’re in business, parenting, relationships, or chasing a passion project, identify the parts that light you up—the ones that no machine could replicate—and double down on them. Embrace the changes AI brings; let it handle the heavy lifting so you can shine in your strengths. Ask yourself: What makes my contribution irreplaceable? What do I love that involves connecting with people, solving problems creatively, or adding that special flair? Nurture those skills, and you’ll not only survive the AI wave but thrive in it. Your career, your relationships, your whole lifestyle will feel more fulfilling because you’re focusing on what makes you, well, you.

My challenge for you this week is to stop fearing AI and start using it to make your life exactly the way you want it, thriving and leaning into the more human aspects of life.  Embrace the human side in this ever changing tech-driven world. And remember, if you’re loving the podcast, that five-star review goes a long way. Share this with three fellow humans, I love you guys I’ll talk to you in a few days!
