LISTEN TO: Want to affect change? Be more CONFIDENT! (It’s contagious)

Hi guys! Welcome to Episode 340 of the Wildly Successful Lifestyle podcast! Have you ever been in a situation where you are unsure about something but someone comes along and they are so confident it causes you to feel confident too? They made you feel so confident you would do just about anything they tell you to do? Im not talking fake confidence Im talking tried and true they walk the talk confidence. It’s refreshing to me when I work with people like that. But we also have personal responsibility here too because you can’t just go with every confident person you come across, your intuition and your inner guidance system plays a role too. When your gut says something doesn’t feel right here, you have to do a little bit of your own research in that case. Because like the title says…Confidence is contagious!

My personality sometimes in a way will have me wanting everyone to be happy and everyone to be on board but Ive found that that just does not work when you are trying to get things done. If you’re confident in your position you won’t be swayed easily by someone’s differing opinion. I learned this in design because it’s subjective.

Ive been doing design for so long now that I feel very confident that if you put me in any situation I will come up with a design solution that will look amazing and feel right for the space. Ive done it enough to know. When I meet with clients they feel that confidence and it gives them the courage to do certain things in their home that they wouldn’t normally feel comfortable doing because they are afraid to make big decisions and mess up, I assure them up front we aren’t going to do that. We will pull the trigger only on things that we are certain are going to be amazing! And that’s what we do. My confidence rubs off on them.

Confidence is actually a super power for success, people most of the time just want someone to tell them it’s going to be ok, or its going to look amazing or its gonna be successful. There are lots of times where confidence is crucial.

I have been getting botox for a very long time from a company locally and they are just so good at it and they are very confident about exactly how much I need and exactly where I need it. There’s no question they just present it in a way that makes me feel very confident that if I go with their service, Im going to be happy and so I do and I always am. Now, they also have a skin care line that I love individually the products but Im simply not sure which products I should be using and how often. Great product but Im not certain how to use them so even though I like the product, Im not certain I’m using it right, when I leave the office, they are so sweet and ask if I need any product or if I would like to try their new product. I say “I don’t know, Do I need it?” The office person will say “I mean I like it, lots of people seem to like it. So I say, OK, I’ll wait. I have the means to buy it, I have a strong desire for my skin to look a certain way, but no-one is there saying according to your skin, if you use this this and this, you will have the skin you want in 30 days. No-one is saying that, so Im not confident in making that jump to use the product.

So my friend Freida has been telling me for years that I need to go and see this person who she has been seeing for years for my skin because she is so good. Im finally now to the age where Im like ok I need to be figuring out exactly what my skin needs so that I age gracefully. My friend Renee and I were talking a few weeks ago that we wished there was someone that would just say Do this, use this, this and this and your skin will be magic. Ask and you shall receive right? So after that conversation I messaged Frieda and I said ok, send me the name of your skincare lady so I can talk to her. Which she did.

So I set up a time, she was booked out 8 weeks, which is a good sign, but I managed to get in early because someone cancelled. So my first appointment I thought she would just visually look at my skin and then we would set up a time to get down to business as to what I needed to do. Nope, she said “Heidi you’re up and so we went into her room and she had me lay down on her table and off to work she goes on my skin. The whole time she is talking to me about each aspect of my skin and why it looked or felt that way and she worked for about 20 minutes with product and some other scraping thing so she could identify what I needed by the end of the meeting she said yep this is what we need to do. Ive got your protocol, you will need to follow to a t. Are you good at following directions? I said I can be and she said ok well if you want your skin to look like that and she pointed to one of her patients who just walked in with beautiful even glowing skin and she was my age. She said if you want your skin to look like that, follow exactly what Im telling you to do and in 6 months we will have you there. It may be sooner but I have to learn your skin. I felt like crying because I had been wanting exactly this person for the last 2-3 years and here she was and she was confident and I felt very certain that if I followed her protocol I would be happy and Im 3 weeks in and so far I am ecstatic with where my skin is in such a short period. Her confidence gave me the confidence to move forward.

Same thing goes for my functional Nutritionist Dr Peter Osborne. I first became acquainted with him when I interviewed him for my podcast, he was a wealth of knowledge. He was so confident and certain about nutrition and gluten and how being deficient in certain things can affect you that I immediately after interviewing him set up an appointment with him to do testing on me. Same thing as my skin care, once he was able to see the results of my tests, he told me I was basically malnourished and I was definitely gluten sensitive and allergic to dairy and my inflammation was a big problem that we can and will address and he gave me a protocol that he wanted me on for 10 weeks. He actually listed the foods I could eat and the foods I could not eat. He was confident my problems would almost completely subside just in those first 10 weeks along with taking certain supplements but I had to be able to follow his protocol to the T because one bite of gluten could cause inflammation for a month. That’s crazy! But follow it I did and it changed my life, my joints and hands and inflammation were almost entirely fixed. We still had a little work to do but I finally had an answer and because he was so confident I believed it would work and it did.

When you are wanting to affect change, confidence is key. But just because someone is confident it doesn’t mean you want to automatically follow their lead, your inner guidance has to play a role. I remember going to the Dr with my husband for a wellness check and the cardiologist after 5 minutes of seeing him said yep I’m going to put you on statins and you will take them for the rest of your life, welcome to getting older. Both of us as we walked out with a bad feeling about that visit, even though he was confident, we knew in our hearts we needed to do more research and we did and we are glad we did because that was not the path for us. So you have to always make sure to be in tune with your inner guidance system and if something doesn’t feel right keep searching. The answer you need will come.

So if you’re looking to affect change with your kids, your partner, your boss, anyone confidence is crucial and look like Kevin my trainer said this week when he was watching a new trainer struggle to layout a cohesive plan for a client he said the key to confidence doesn’t necessary mean loads of experience, but if you don’t have loads of experience, you better have done loads of preparation.

And the other thing is to always make sure you follow your intuition. I knew immediately that Teri my skincare esthetician was right, it just felt right, the same thing for Dr Osborne. It felt right and they were very confident which gave me confidence.

My challenge to you this week is if you’re trying to affect change be confident in what you’re doing and not having experience doesn’t have to stop you from confidence, like Kevin said if you don’t have loads of experience, just make sure you’ve done loads of preparation and planning. And listen to your intuition when a confident person is telling you something that doesn’t feel right for you, it probably isn’t. Just pause for a bit and do a little more research…no harm in that.
